Opkyk Pathways

Therapy and Educational Centre

Opkyk Pathways Therapy and Educational Centre, a non-profit organization is a stimulation and educational centre, initiated in June 2002 on the farm Kleinfontein, Brits, North West, South Africa, in a quest to accommodate children with various disabilities and special educational needs.

Our aim is to

  • Provide optimal stimulation to children living with severe disabilities;
  • Empower every learner to communicate, acquire functional literacy, numeracy and life skills in order to successfully participate in their communities;
  • Empower and facilitate families and caregivers to support their children in becoming respected members of society; and
  • Provide optimal stimulation to children with learning disabilities.

Projects we are Involved in

Vodacom – Change the Word

Opkyk Pathways was part of the first group of 10 PBO beneficiaries when the “Change the World” initiative was launched in South Africa. Santie Kotze was our volunteer for one year.

Our project was to promote AAC and educate the community about it. Santie was the SA finalist in the “Graham Maher Award” by Vodafone. The winner was from Netherland and the UK and Australia were runners up.

At the ISAAC conference in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania in 2012, Drika did a presentation on the work Opkyk Pathways do and the way we could change the world of many people in our community and other parts of South Africa.
Therapeutic Horse riding activities have been adapted incorporating AAC.

Various people all over Suth-Africa and even up in Ghana benefitted from the material developed by Santie, and this is possible because of the Vodacom Change the World program.
