Who we serve

Opkyk serves children with diverse abilities who are able to engage with a structured, curriculum-based learning environment but require adapted teaching methods, smaller class sizes, and individualised support.

Learners may experience learning barriers, medical conditions, or developmental differences that make mainstream education challenging. Each child’s programme is carefully adapted to support their strengths, learning pace, and specific educational needs.

Programme Focus & Learning Approach

Learners at Opkyk follow individually adapted curricula based on their abilities, interests, and educational needs. While some learners work towards specific grade-level outcomes, others focus on selected subjects aligned with their strengths and developmental goals.

Core learning areas include mathematics, science, technology, languages, and creative subjects. Teaching approaches are flexible and responsive, allowing learners to progress at their own pace while building confidence, independence, and a positive relationship with learning.

Where appropriate, learners may also participate in selected activities within the Skills Training division, providing exposure to practical and creative skills alongside academic learning.

Support Structure

Opkyk class maintains a small teacher-to-learner ratio to ensure each child receives individualised attention and guidance. Learning programmes are carefully tailored to meet each learner’s unique strengths and needs.

Outcomes & Impact

Learners at Opkyk develop academic skills, including literacy, numeracy, and foundational knowledge in science, technology, and creative subjects. Through individually adapted learning programmes, they build confidence, independence, and self-motivation.

Participation in group activities, creative projects, and selected skills training fosters social interaction, problem-solving, and practical abilities. Many learners also gain early exposure to vocational and creative skills through integration with the Skills Training division, providing a foundation for future engagement in practical, hands-on learning opportunities.

Applied Learning & Enrichment Opportunities

Learners at Opkyk benefit from a range of additional opportunities that support their personal and practical development. And therapeutic needs:

  • Integration into Skills Training activities, including creative projects in the Skill Studio and practical tasks in the Skill Workshop.
